Phlebotomy Training Diploma Program

Southern Technical Institute phlebotomy  training offer a Phlebotomy Technician 165 Hour Diploma program that is approved by the Florida Department of Education, Commission for Independent Education (CIE) to provide high-quality education in the field of Phlebotomy. For many patients, giving blood can be the most difficult part of a doctor or hospital visit.

Phlebotomists are allied healthcare professionals who draw blood from patients and preparing it for further medical testing. Phlebotomy technicians are primarily stationed in doctor’s offices or hospitals, and will routinely work directly with patients and families. Because some patients have a fear of needles or blood, it is important for the technician to develop a sense of confidence and trust with the patient.

Major duties and responsibilities of the phlebotomist include:

  • Correct I.D. of the patient before collecting samples
  • Collection of the appropriate amount of blood by Venipuncture or skin puncture
  • Selection of the appropriate specimen containers
  • Correct labeling of all specimens
  • Appropriate transportation of specimens to the laboratory effective interaction with patients and other personnel in the workplace.

The phlebotomist is an important member of the clinical laboratory team. New diagnostic techniques, clinical laboratory technology and automated instruments have greatly increased the volume of – and demand for – medical laboratory testing.
